The Falun
_ Falun Gong is a cultivation religion closely related to Buddhism and Taoism. The foundation of the religion comes from the words Truthfulness, Forbearance and Compassion. These traits are seen as the guides to cultivation of Gong energy and ultimately ascension or enlightenment. Falun Gong is based out of China and has spread worldwide. The symbol of Falun Gong is respectably a cross between the Buddhist and Taoist symbols and uses the Buddhist srivatsas and the Tao yin-yang symbols; it is called the Falun (seen at left). The key goals of Falun Gong are physical well-being, spirituality and moral awareness. Falun Gong utilizes five meditation movements, known as qigong, are used to rotate the falun in the abdomen and to ultimately make the body healthier (beliefnet, 2008). Qigong is practiced by people of a variety of religions all around the world (Wanjek, 2001).
